The face behind Mommy's Little Sunshine

Monday, October 1, 2012

 Hello everyone!
Many of you know me personally or even just by way of blog. For those you who do not, this post is for you. (For those of you who do know here are our most recent family pictures.) I would like to introduce you to my family and I. I would also like to give you a little background for Mommy's Little Sunshine.

I have always dreamed of owning a baby and children's boutique, but like many others I had no idea how to start it. I would have never imagined it starting the way it did either. I actually started a family blog, just to blog about our life. When I found out that I was pregnant with my daughter we decided to do a family photo shoot with some chalk boards introducing her arrival. Once I put them on my blog they started to go viral on Pinterest. I was actually very surprised that so many people were not only re-pinning but starting to follow my blog as well. As the fan base grew I decided to create a whole new blog dedicated to just my pregnancy. I thought for a long time about what exactly to call the blog. I then finally decided on Mommy's Little Sunshine because I knew my little one would be nothing but.

My new blog fan base also began to grow and as it grew fate just started to fall into place. And I jumped at the opportunity to start my own online boutique and make some of my dreams come true! Well Mommy's Little Sunshine has already exceed a lot of my dreams! So I just keep setting the bar higher and am thrilled for the further of this company. I honestly couldn't have done it without all of my amazing followers, customers and fans. So a big shout out, thank you goes to each and every one of you!

So let me introduce to my family.
<3

My name is McKinli Hatch. I was born and raised in Ogden, Utah. I wasn't always so much into fashion and "girly" things. As a child, I absolutely loved playing sports and was even on my Junior High basketball, softball and track team. Once I started to make my way into High School I changed directions and was a cheerleader in my High School for 2 years. I also was Miss Northern Utah Teen USA which really sparked my interest into the fashion industry. I loved fashion so much that I started modeling locally and loved every second of it. About 2 years ago I really discovered my true passion for children and baby fashion. I have always said "How do you make cute clothing even cuter? Make it tiny and put it on a little one!"

This handsome guy would be the love of my life, my husband Devan. He should actually get most of the credit for Mommy's Little Sunshine because without his encouragement I could have never done it. He is always pushing me to chase my dreams and make them a reality. He is also the one standing by me even if that means to stay up all hours of the night making hair bows. Needless to say he is my rock.

These little gems are my happy!

This is my little big boy, Titan. He is 3 years old and now in pre-school! He just makes my day, everyday. His little personality is so full of spunk he is granted to make you laugh.

This is my baby girl, Laikynn. She is just about the sweetest 6 month old baby you will ever meet. She is consistently smiling and making everyone around her smile!

Now you know a little more about us and Mommy's Little Sunshine! I can't wait for everything that is in store with Mommy's Little Sunshine and I hope you will join us as the company exceeds my biggest expectations!

DIY Chalk Board

Saturday, September 22, 2012

I get question, after question about how I made the lovely chalk board. So I am FINALLY doing a tutorial on it!

YAY!

I actually made this chalk board way back at the beginning of my pregnancy before I knew I was going to have any followers really. So I didn't take any pictures of the actual process.

Luck for you it is very, very simple and you will most likely understand it pretty clear without the pictures.

First you need an old picture frame. I wanted a really big one, which can be pretty pricey. So my first thought was to go to DI. To my surprise they were way more than I wanted to pay. I really didn't want to pay a lot for something I was just going to take apart and re-do. I then tried TJ Max, there prices were way better and I was able to get a huge one for like $20.

Then I went to Home Depot and got some chalk board paint. I got the kind that you can make any color, feeling super spontaneous I chose grey ha!!

The first time I did this I put the chalk board paint directly on the glass with about two layers. It looked great and worked the first time I wrote on it. I can't say the same thing about the next time. The chalk board paint started to peel off the glass when I would write on it. So this is definitely not the way to do it.

I had my husband cut out a piece of wood to fit in perfectly. I put on about 2-3 layers of chalk board paint and then popped it in the frame. I have probably wrote on it a good 50 times and it is still as good as the first day I made it!

Another questions I had was where do I buy all the fun colors of chalk. When I first started this chalk board it was winter and side walk chalk was no where to be found at any store and no one had the little skinny chalks either. So I just used my 3 year old's huge thick chalk. Then once it got a little warmer I bought some more and the always have tons of fun colors!

When I first made the chalk board is was just to track my pregnancy but I find more and more reasons to use it! I recommend making one if you are thinking about it!

Football

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

In Utah there are two fairly big colleges.
University of Utah and Brigham Young University.
They are pretty big rivals so when the big game comes up between them everyone in this state is a little divided, including our family...

Sorry, it's an instagram photo so you get the sweet black lines on the top and bottom from the cropping of the photo. (PS follow me on instagram @mckinli)

I grew up in Ogden which is fairly close to the U and always wanted to go to school there. Devan grew up in Utah County so he has always been a BYU fan. We figured since Laikynn was also born in Utah County she could root for BYU. Then Titan was born in Ogden like me so he would root for Utah. When asked he also wanted the "red team" to win ha!

We went to a game day BBQ and party with some friends and watched the game. Titan and I were the only ones rooting for the Utes at the party but that is okay with us because the Utes won!!

Adoption

Sunday, September 16, 2012

I wanted to write this post for my cousin Emily and her husband Brad. They are both such sweet and loving people who are hoping to adopt.

I found myself on the opposite side of this situation only a few short years ago. I searched through hundreds of families before making my decision. If you or someone you know is in considering adoption please pass this link onto them. I couldn't think of two better people out there who would make absolutely amazing parents.

Thank you.

Laikynn 5 months

Age: 5 months
Height: Okay, I already forgot what the doctor said her height was! I wrote 23inches because that was her last height. Once I call the doctors office I will edit this post and put in the correct height at 5 months! I do remember she was in the 48% though! :)
Weight: 12lbs, 4%
Head: I am horrible, I can't remember this stat either! I promise I will edit it soon!
Milestones: Laikynn can roll over now! She has been rolling back and forth and all around! If she wants something she just keeps rolling till she gets there!
Sleep: She is still such an awesome sleeper! She goes to bed around 10pm and wakes up at about 8am. Doesn't even wake up once in the night! We definitely got lucky!
Best Moment: I love hearing her laugh! She is laughing so much now. And not the little giggle laughs but a full on belly laugh! It is seriously the cutest thing!
Worst Moment: I some how talked my self in to buying her a $50 pair of pants. I put them on for the first time right before a party we were going to and she had a blow out before we even left the house! AWESOME, not. Let's just say we might wait on buying super nice clothes for her for awhile! haha
Health: She is growing great and is a happy, healthy baby!
Eating: Laikynn is still eating great. We are actually in the process right now of switching off nursing to formula right now. And she is doing great with it. She is also now eating rice cereal and baby food. She is still making quite the mess with it but is slowly getting the hang of it and loving all the new tastes!
Teeth: So I keep thinking she is teething but nothing is coming yet!
